In large structures, moisture laden air migrates into the environment from outside climate. This leakage has the ability to transport exponentially more moisture into and through the building enclosure than occurs through vapor diffusion alone. This moisture can migrate far enough into the assembly that it can be cooled down to a dew point, at which time the water vapor turns to liquid water. This liquid water corrodes metals in the building assembly, provides one of the ingredients for mold growth, and saturates building materials. This is why air barrier systems are essential in large structures. Air barrier systems are designed to stop infiltration and ex-filtration in the building envelope while allowing the transmission of water vapor, preventing condensation in the wall assembly. Moisture laden air leaking in from either the inside or the outside is barred from the entering the climate controlled enclosure an air barrier system provides. Mar-Flex has several Air Barrier solutions including the Air Barrier 1200™ and the Air and Vapor Barrier 1800™.
