Proper basement waterproofing, including correct installation of any basement footer drains and drainage tile, is significant in an area with a significant amount of annual rainfall because ground-water saturation causes hydrostatic pressure on foundation walls. Even dry and arid areas need some minimal drainage solution to prevent flooding in certain situations.
